AI-Powered Business Identity Verification, KYB and Fraud Risk Intelligence
Baselayer, legally incorporated as Osiris Ratings, Inc. and founded in 2023 by Jonathan Awad and Timothy Hyde, sells business identity verification and risk intelligence to organizations that must decide whether a company is real before extending credit or account access. Its buyers are banks, credit unions, fintechs, marketplaces, payment processors and small-business lenders. The stated premise is that legacy know-your-business tooling leans on static data, disconnected signals and manual analyst review, which leaves openings for fraud and compliance failure.
Verification runs against live Secretary of State registries in all fifty states plus IRS records, so an EIN, entity name and address can be resolved from as little as a business name and address, with fuzzy matching absorbing typos and abbreviations. Layered on top are OFAC, PEP, Death Master File and military-lending screens, UCC and tax lien searches, bankruptcy and lawsuit records drawn from roughly three thousand state and county courts, and web signals such as domain metadata, site status and social presence. Results are returned through a dashboard, an API or prebuilt integrations.
The differentiator is network effect rather than data breadth alone. An Identity Network correlates anonymized application activity across participating institutions, surfacing shared addresses, reused EINs and application velocity that indicate fraud rings or credit stacking, while a Fraud Consortium pools business-reported fraud cases into a shared list. A Risk Co.Pilot applies AI agents to repetitive underwriting checks and returns explainable decisions, and portfolio monitoring issues real-time alerts on sanctions, adverse events and entity changes. Positioning increasingly targets identity and risk for the agentic economy.
